It was around Christmas nearly four years ago when I first met the talented miss Allister Ann. A dinner with mutual friends quickly spiraled into a sweet friendship and shared appreciation of fashion, art and blogging. Since then, we’ve made many fun memories together – from hours chatting about life in a hot tub on Cayamo Cruise to too-many-cocktails-turned-bathroom-photoshoot; we’ve enjoyed lazy brunches at Nashville-fave Marché and even collaborated on numerous photoshoots.
In all the time I’ve spent with Allister, I can tell you, this gal’s got somethin’ special. At the ripe age of 17, Allister was in Los Angeles pursuing a degree in fashion design when she decided to pick up a camera (the actual first time was in high school with her dad’s old Pentax). Now, only a handful of years later, she can hardly be spotted without camera in tow, ready to capture the special moments of everyday life – with people like The Civil Wars, Andrew Bird, Jack White and now, fortunately for us, imogene + willie. Her work has been featured in Elle UK Magazine and on the cover of Billboard.
You may (or may not) have noticed this red-headed beauty bouncing around in our backyard at supper+song. Allister has a special way of capturing things in the most natural way, like a fly on the wall. Watching her do her thing is magical – when she’s taking a photograph, she’s not just snapping endless pictures, but thoughtfully getting to know her subjects.
Most of all, she is a darling girl with a real gift. For all you aspiring creatives, Allister has the following sage advice:
“If you’re truly an artist, you do it because you have to. There’s a hole or void in yourself that you crave to fill, and that’s what draws you and compels you to keep at it. If you’re lucky enough to make a living at it, that’s a bonus, but never a necessity, because you’d do it anyway… just because you love it that much.”
Bravo, Allister Ann. I am extremely blessed to call you friend, inspiration, and partner-in-crime.
Love,
Elise
